cops & kids & cats, oh my!
It's barely noon and I'm already a basket case.

First- Riley went over to the pool with a couple friends. About half an hour before she was due to return, the phone rang. "This is Officer Someone from the Pasco County Sherrif's Department." Shit.

Seems Riley got curious about the red box on the wall and opened it up to check things out. It has a coiled wire cord, which uncoiled when she opened the door, which caused the emergency phone to fall off the hook, which automatically generates a call to emergency services. Great.

I barely have time to recover from that when they boys invite every male child in the neighborhood over to play video games and guitar.

The guitar is currently screaming louder than I can yell.

Plus, a stray cat has decided he lives in our garage now. He's been a fixture for about 3 days, ever since Collin fed him some cheese.

I think I might have to break out the wine for lunch.

11/9/2008 9:49:05 AM   From:  Rani   Oh, Merc, honey...it really sucks to be you right now. lol

May as well break out the cheese too, you and the cat can sip wine and eat cheese together.

11/9/2008 12:36:13 PM   From:  beags   If you put some Perrier in it and make a spritzer, it will seem less of an alcoholic move..
11/9/2008 12:36:38 PM   From:  beags   LOL at least the cat's gone for now..
11/9/2008 12:40:44 PM   From:  doheney   i so sorry. i have to admit though, i couldn't help laughing about the phone box though lol. sounds alot like my dennis the menace family lol. have another glass of wine lolat least it will dull out the noise
11/9/2008 1:03:18 PM   From:  mercury   The kids are all gone now. They're off bugging some other poor soul.

The cat is back, though.

The phone box thing was funny, after my heart returned from it's journey to the bottom of my gut. She took full responsibility for it, and I'm pretty proud of her for that. And proud of myself for speaking to her calmly about how bright red boxes in an otherwise bland environment usually signifies "for emergency use only". Lesson learned.
11/9/2008 1:41:19 PM   From:  Emi   lol. Kids bring some interesting things in life, don't they? I feel bad for Riley, though. I know how curiosity works. I probably would have done the same thing at her age, and only because I went into "explore mode".

Do tell me about this cat though. You know me and kitties. Is it cute??
11/9/2008 1:45:49 PM   From:  mercury   he's really cute. tabby, colored like jupiter and tag, but long hair.... and starved for affection. I'll take pictures later
11/9/2008 1:47:53 PM   From:  Emi   I look forward to that. I bet he's not as big as Jupiter was. That cat was HUGE.
11/9/2008 1:51:32 PM   From:  mercury   The kids have named him Benson.

Our lease doesn't allow pets, or I'm sure I would have been convinced to let him move in the house by now.
11/10/2008 6:23:05 AM   From:  Jez   the road fed on another one of our barn cats, poor feller. a nice peaches and cream long hair, too. it's always fun to try and explain that kind of thing to my son. we just don't name them anymore.
11/10/2008 7:09:09 AM   From:  Ali   Swimming in November????

Damn.
11/10/2008 8:39:20 AM   From:  mercury   Frozen stiff chickens in the coop and rabbits in the hutch always freaked me out more than road kill, for some reason.

I guess after my brother getting hit by cars so many times, I understood that concept.

and yeah! swimming in November! what a trip!
11/10/2008 8:42:25 AM   From:  eddo   we don't even swim in November here...
